RECESS

Terms of use

Effective 2026-10-03 · version 1

These terms are an agreement between you and the Recess team (“we”, “us”) for using Recess (the apps and the game on the web). By playing online you agree to them, to the community rules and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, you can still play offline.

1. Who can play online

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should read these terms with you.

2. The game

Recess is free. There's nothing to buy. Coins, box office, items, furniture, cars and anything else you earn are part of the game: they have no value outside it, can't be sold or swapped for money, and we may change, rebalance or reset them. We may change, pause or stop any part of the game.

3. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive players

Recess is for having fun together. We do not tolerate objectionable content or abusive behaviour of any kind. You must not post, draw, show, stream, say or link to anything that is:

and you must not cheat, exploit bugs, disrupt rooms or try to get around a ban or a block. The full list is in the community rules.

If you break these rules we may remove your content, remove you from rooms, and suspend or permanently ban you, without notice.

4. Reporting, blocking and moderation

You can report or block any player from Who's here in a room, and report anything on the big screen or any film. Room hosts can also remove players and take things off the screen. Cameras, photos, uploaded videos, video files and web pages only work in private rooms. Reports come to us; we aim to review them within 24 hours, and we remove content and eject players that break these terms. When enough people in a room report the same player, the room removes them straight away.

5. What you make

You keep the rights to what you create. So that the game can work, you give us a worldwide, free licence to store, show, copy and share it within Recess (for example: a film you drew shows in the reels and on the posters of everyone who made it, and can be shared by them). This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for films other players made with you and kept, and for copies kept in reports. You're responsible for what you put on the big screen and must have the right to share it.

6. Other services

Videos and pages from other services (such as YouTube, Vimeo and Twitch) are provided by those services under their own terms. Recess uses YouTube API Services: by watching or putting up YouTube videos in Recess, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. We don't control these services and aren't responsible for them.

7. Copyright complaints

If you believe something in Recess infringes your copyright, use the contact form with the details (what it is, where it appeared, and how to reach you), and we'll take it down if it does.

8. No warranty

Recess is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don't promise it will always be available, error-free or that your progress will never be lost.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for what other players do; and our total liability to you is limited to 50 US dollars (or the equivalent in your currency). Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that can't be limited by law.

10. Ending

You can stop playing and delete your data at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll ask you to agree again in the app before you next play online.

12. The law

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where we are established, except where the law where you live gives you rights that can't be taken away.

13. Apps from the App Store

If you got Recess from Apple's App Store: these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content. Your licence to use the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store's Usage Rules allow. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no warranty obligation for the app; if the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund any price you paid (Recess is free). We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims about the app (product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, privacy, or intellectual property). You confirm that you're not in a country subject to a US embargo or on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must also follow the terms of any third-party service you use with the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

If you got Recess from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your download.
